Formerly a Church part of an old monastery surrounded by a park, Santa Maria in Tempulo is also known as "Caracalla Wedding Hall' because of its proximity with the ruins of the ancient Baths of Caracalla, the impressive thermal bath built in 206 aD and used until the 6th century when the Goths destroyed the acqueducts. The baths contained art galleries, gymnasia, meeting halls, gardens, libraries and shops. Throughout the complex statues and mosaics richly decorated the complex.

The interior of the marriage hall is very spacious and suggestive, with golden chairs with red cloth, high ceilings supported by wooden beams, Roman walls and marble statues.
