Cheap and Chic AdviceIt boasts the most breathtaking view of Italian Riviera. If you have elderly guests, though, is not the best location because the castle is only reachable by walk via an uphill path.
Civil weddings in Portovenere are celebrated in two breathtaking venues in town; the historical Umberto fortress on Palmaria island (the small island facing Portovenere) and the stunning Medieval Doria castle.
The most renowned venue for a Portovenere wedding is the Medieval Doria castle which stands proudly in a superb strategic viewpoint high above the waves, a splendid gulf and a fairy chapel. The terrace of the castle can be reached only by foot. It is an uphill walk of about 10 minutes and not suitable for people with walking difficulties due to the many steps. But once you are there your effort will be priced by an unforgettable panoramic view of Palmaria island and the Gulf of the Poets (with the Lerici fortress far at the horizon).
